London wins DEWALT/Call2Recycle National Rechargeable Battery Trade-In Event

Residents divert 2,690kg of power tool batteries from landfill

At the end of a seven-month national collection drive, DEWALT® (a Stanley Black & Decker brand) and Call2Recycle are happy to congratulate the residents of London, Ontario, for collecting an impressive 2,690kg of batteries. The weight of all batteries collected in London was almost the same weight as five adult male polar bears. National collections of the drive totalled more than 15,000 kilograms.

Since June, DEWALT® customers in Canada earned a ten per cent discount on the purchase of a new DEWALT power tool battery by recycling their used rechargeable batteries. Customers who dropped off any brand of rechargeable battery from a cordless power tool - such as a drill, saw or nail gun - at one of DEWALT's nine Canadian factory-owned service centres also received a ten per cent discount on the purchase of a new DEWALT power tool battery. The collection and recycling of the batteries was facilitated by Call2Recycle®Canada, Canada's national consumer battery recycling program.

"We are absolutely committed to helping our customers do the right thing with the rechargeable batteries that power our products," said Buffy Taylor, Environmental, Health and Safety Manager - Canada, Stanley Black & Decker. "Our partnership with Call2Recycle allows us to offer convenient, no-cost battery recycling to our customers."

"Our partnership with DEWALT has demonstrated that, by educating consumers, we can divert more batteries from landfills and into proper recycling facilities," said Joe Zenobio, Executive Director of Call2Recycle Canada. "I want to congratulate everyone in London who participated in this program, and hope they'll work hard to defend their title during the 2015 DEWALT/Call2Recycle Battery Trade-In event."
